My solution for when starting a new game and having it say that there is no disk space, drag the batch file called SIERRA onto the dosbox shortcut instead of application file called SCIDHUV.

It's really nice and fun. I like the 1991 Sierra version too.

There was another version that had converted all the text balloons into spoken sound bytes. Hoping to find that out there, for younger ones.

Just in case someone hasn't figured it out
To play in dosbox you also need to mount A drive as a floppy drive.

This was a joy to play as a little girl, I was so happy to find it here! Haven't been able to find it anywhere else. Only thing is when the game loads and "New Game" is clicked on the main screen, it says I have 0k available or disc space.AND I am unable to play! I am using DoSBox. Anyone know how to fix this? I did not find anything relating on the Vogons site. I am able to run a number of other programs tho. So I do not think its really the computer.

This game is *just* playable by a preschooler with lots of assistance, a kindergartner with some assistance or ideally by 1st graders (early readers.) A 2nd grader might find it fun but probably not very challenging.
The game is a giant map of multiple houses/buildings/scenes where numerous classic Mother Goose characters are hanging out. Each one is missing something essential: Peter Pumpkin Eater can't find his wife, or Mary lost her little lamb. After the character's poetic speech, it flashes the exact picture of the missing object (that's why pre-readers can play this.) Since each scene is just the character or the object its easy to match them up, however, a little mind can get lost in the map very easily. Also, you can only carry one object at a time, whenever you pick one up it will set down whatever you had last.
The sound will work with VDMSound, Google and download it from Sourceforge. Then instead of left-clicking to open, right click and choose "Run with VDMSound". This program activates the sound in about 80% of the games I've tried running through it. Sometimes it makes games playable that otherwise refused to even boot up.
If you're looking for a slightly younger game, check out Scooter's Magic Castle (also available on this site.)

Great little game, it's up there with Oregon Trail and Commander Keen!
